Mike was a dairy farmer for 15-years before becoming a Rural Consultant and still keeps his hand in at farming by running a store cattle business based around rotational grazing.

Mike has enjoyed success since joining youngsRPS in Landlord and Tenant work; property sales; utility compensation claims; & business viability reports to assist with planning applications. He is an FBAASS (Farm Business Adviser Accreditation Scheme for Scotland) accredited adviser and is able to assist farmers and landowners with accessing Scottish Government funding to carry out ILMP’s; Specialist Advice; and Carbon Audits.

He is a board member of the Scottish Tenant Farmers Association and has been since 2010. He has gained experience working on behalf of the Scottish Government’s Farm Advisory Service, promoting the Tenant Improvement’s Amnesty and other aspects of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2016. He also sits on the NFUS executive committee for Dumfries and Galloway and represents the region on the national Environment and Land Use Committee.

Mike has a wealth of knowledge and understanding of grant schemes and subsidy applications and liaising with Scottish Government and SEPA on behalf of clients.

Away from the office, he enjoys family life and shooting (when he gets the chance). Mike also coaches youth rugby for Dumfries Saints Rugby Club.
