Home About Blog Five Minutes with Senior Sales Consultant Amanda Boynton-Moohan

After the huge success of our Darlington office launch, we caught up with Senior Sales Consultant, Amanda Boynton-Moohan to learn more about her role and her Darlington housing market insights.

What do you do at youngsRPS and in what does your typical day look like?

I am a Senior Sales Consultant, covering both Darlington and Sedgefield areas. As a Senior Sales Consultant, there are never two days alike, each day is full of new opportunities and challenges to help both buyers and sellers achieve their goals. My days consist of finding the right buyers for a property, and searching for any potential properties for buyers, I do not believe business comes to you, you need to go out there and find it. From booking valuation and viewing appointments, showing properties to clients, negotiating sales to dealing with sales progression and administration, each day is always extremely busy.

What led you to this career?

My career background began in retail. I became a retail manager in Darlington at the age of 18. After spending a few years as a retail manager onboard cruise ships in my 20’s, I returned to England, and I felt I needed something more challenging while still being involved with sales. I was drawn to Estate Agency when I purchased my first home, and I realised there was a lot more to the process than I was aware of. On speaking to several agents to find out more about the industry I was hooked, and I have never looked back.

What’s the biggest misconception people have about your job?

One of the biggest misconceptions I continually hear, is that estate agents just put a board outside a house, wait for someone to buy it then charge a fee. In a way I always find this amusing because it is so far from the reality of what is involved in estate agency. If we do not sell properties, we do not get paid. It is in our interest to find buyers as quickly as possible while still getting the best price for our vendors.

What are the best parts of your job?

There is no doubt in my mind that the best part of my job is handing keys over to the new owner of a property. The satisfaction of making someone so happy is amazing. I also really enjoy problem solving, obviously we would love all sales and purchases to run smoothly, but if any issues arise, I enjoy ironing out any bumps along the way.

What are your top three tips for people thinking about selling their Darlington home in the near future?

  1. Always talk to a professional, friends and family are great at giving their thoughts, but a professional will always provide the best advice.

  2. Make sure your sales consultant / sales negotiator is qualified to do the job. If you wouldn’t trust a non-qualified car mechanic with your breaks, why would you trust a non-qualified sales agent with you biggest asset?

  3. Be realistic with your price and time expectations. Take advice from your agent with regards the most important reasons you are selling, do you need to price the property for a quick sale, or are you happy to hold out for your asking price.
