Data released from Rightmove revealed the first working week of January was the busiest ever opening to a year for home valuation requests, and the first working day, 4th January, saw the fifth-highest number of valuation requests in a single day that Rightmove has ever recorded.

What do I need to do now

1. Give your home a quick DIY makeover: Give grubby walls a lick of paint, make sure all lightbulbs are working, and tackle all small DIY jobs you have been putting off all year.

2. Winter proof your garden: Spend a few hours trimming bushes, cutting the lawn, remove fallen leaves and dead plants, and ensure it looks tidy.

3. De-clutter and clean: When it’s time to take down the decorations it’s also a great opportunity to clear out the clutter or store it off-site and give the whole house a deep clean.
